Separated by cultures and centuries, Rachmaninoff and Mozart share a musical kinship as pianists and composers. To highlight this connection, we welcome pianist, Elliot Wuu, to perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21. The religious undertones and underlying mournfulness heard in Symphonic Dances, which concludes this program, are a glimpse of Rachmaninoff’s struggle with failure and death offset by his own affirmation of faith heard in the exhilarating final movement.
